The 9-Stage Purification Process Behind Every Gallon We Fill
Every gallon of water at Crystal Alkaline Water — from the RO to the 9.5 pH alkaline — starts with the same source: Cucamonga Valley Water District tap water. It runs through a 9-stage AMPAC filtration system before it reaches your container. This is how that works.
Where We Start
Cucamonga Valley Water District Tap Water
Cucamonga Valley Water District delivers water that meets EPA standards. It is treated with chlorine and chloramines for disinfection — effective at eliminating pathogens, but not ideal for daily drinking. The local supply also carries naturally occurring minerals, trace heavy metals, and compounds that affect taste and total dissolved solids (TDS). This is the water we start with. The 9-stage process is what we do to it.
How It Works
The 9-Stage AMPAC Process
Pre-Filter
Removes suspended solids up to 25 microns — the first line of defense against particulate matter in the incoming source water.
Ion Exchange Water Softener
Removes calcium, magnesium, lead, and iron — converting hard water to soft water and protecting the RO membrane from scale buildup.
Multimedia Carbon Pre-Filter
Removes chlorine, chloramines, contaminants, and impurities from the incoming water source before it reaches the membrane stages.
Sediment Pre-Filter
A second particulate pass — removes suspended solids up to 20 microns for additional clarity before the carbon block stage.
Carbon Block Pre-Filter
Fine-filtration pass removing suspended solids up to 5 microns. Polishes the water and reduces remaining organics ahead of the RO membrane.
TFC High-Flow RO Membrane
The core purification stage. Thin-film composite membrane elements remove dissolved solids — including fluoride, heavy metals, PFAS, and nitrates — at the molecular level.
Big Blue Carbon Post-Filter
Post-membrane polishing stage. Improves the taste, odor, and clarity of the purified water before it reaches your container.
UV Sterilizer
A stainless steel ultraviolet sterilizer disinfects the pure water as it fills. The UV stage ensures microbiological safety at the point of dispensing.
Ozone Generator
An ozone generator system prolongs the shelf life of the purified water and circulates to maintain ozone levels in the storage tank — keeping the water fresh between fills.
After Filtration
What Gets Added Back
Fully demineralized water is flat and slightly acidic — not ideal for drinking. After the RO membrane stage, our mineral filtration re-introduces calcium, magnesium, and potassium in controlled concentrations. The result is water that's clean at the source and balanced at the finish. The RO output (7.0 pH) skips this step — pure, neutral, nothing added.
The Result
What You're Filling Up With
All four outputs start from the same 9-stage AMPAC filtered base.
Reverse Osmosis
Fully filtered. Neutral pH. No minerals added. What comes out of the RO membrane — clean and nothing else. Used for cooking, baby formula, and medications where a neutral pH matters.
Alkaline Water
9-stage filtered and mineral-enhanced. Calcium, magnesium, and potassium added back after the RO stage. Smooth, clean taste. Our most popular daily hydration option. EBT accepted.
Alkaline Water
Same 9-stage filtration base as 8.5 pH. Higher alkalinity, more pronounced mineral profile. Available for in-store refill and home delivery.
Kangen (Ionized)
All water at Crystal Alkaline Water starts with the 9-stage AMPAC process. Kangen goes one step further — after filtration, it passes through a medical-grade Enagic electrolysis machine. That process produces elevated pH, a measurable negative ORP, and dissolved molecular hydrogen (H₂). This is not mineral-enhanced alkaline water. It is ionized water.
